How Penske pricing works
Local moves
When you return the truck to the same location, Penske charges a daily rate plus a per-mile fee. Fuel is based on round-trip miles, since you drive back.
One-way moves
For a one-way move, the price covers the whole trip and comes with a set number of rental days based on distance. Route, season and truck size all change the price.
Penske rental days by distance (one-way)
| Move distance | Rental days |
|---|---|
| 100 miles | 2 days |
| 250 miles | 3 days |
| 500 miles | 4 days |
| 750 miles | 5 days |
| 1,000 miles | 5 days |
| 1,500 miles | 8 days |
| 2,000 miles | 10 days |
| 2,500 miles | 11 days |

Penske fuel cost
Fuel is often the biggest cost after the rental itself. We estimate it as miles ÷ MPG × diesel price. The table uses $3.75/gal; the calculator above uses the latest national average diesel price.
| Distance | 12 ft | 16 ft | 22 ft | 26 ft |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 250 mi | $66–$81 | $86–$105 | $108–$131 | $123–$150 |
| 500 mi | $133–$162 | $173–$210 | $216–$263 | $246–$300 |
| 1,000 mi | $265–$323 | $345–$420 | $431–$525 | $493–$600 |
| 2,000 mi | $531–$646 | $690–$840 | $863–$1,050 | $986–$1,200 |
Penske vs U-Haul
- Truck sizes differ. Penske offers 12, 16, 22 and 26 ft trucks; U-Haul offers 10, 15, 20 and 26 ft. The right match for your home may be a different size at each.
- Neither is always cheaper. Prices change with route, season and availability, so the same move can favor either company.
- Compare the total, not the daily rate. Rental days, mileage and fuel add up differently at each company.
